Last evening, students at ¶º±ÆÖ±²¥ had the pleasure of hearing from Joe Egan, an experienced legal professional who shared his personal journey in law and pre-law openly and engagingly. The talk was jointly organised by the Law School at ¶º±ÆÖ±²¥ and the Confucius Institute, following a recommendation from Mike Blyth, and offered students a welcoming space to learn from real experience.

Drawing on a rich and varied legal career, including his time as President of the Law Society, Joe spoke honestly about the challenges and opportunities of studying law, building a career, and finding direction within the profession. He shared practical insights into the realities of legal life and offered clear guidance grounded in experience. Key messages included the importance of meeting people, treating everyone with equal respect in order to build a strong client base, and developing resilience when facing difficult clients, challenging judges, and professional setbacks. He emphasised that failure is part of the journey, but persistence is essential, encouraging students never to give up.
