Highlights from the students' cruise experience
This experience has been truly influential in my studies and in my future goals of research in sediment and carbon mobilisation and sinks. Thank you to the alumni who donated to the Bangor Fund and made this possible for us.

The hands-on experience and opportunity to get involved taught me so much and was so rewarding. I was able to apply concepts and techniques I am studying in my undergraduate degree and see how they work as part of a real research project.

I gained hands-on laboratory experience filtering samples for suspended particulate matter, lipids and chlorophyll, as well as valuable experience collecting and processing observational data at sea. Spending time at sea gave me a much better understanding of the practical challenges involved in oceanographic research and has been extremely useful in developing my confidence and practical skills as an early-career oceanographer.

Beyond the technical side, I found the most rewarding part was seeing how large-scale, real-world research operates, with scientists from multiple, institutions including Cefas, The National Oceanography Centre, PML, Imperial College London, Bangor, Leeds and Heriot-Watt Universities working as a team toward shared goals.
