The investment follows the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Welsh Government, UK Government, Isle of Anglesey County Council and Stena Line UK. It unlocks the first tranche of seed capital for seven projects that will strengthen infrastructure, stimulate economic growth and create new jobs across North Wales.
Among the projects receiving support is Egni, the second major research and innovation building at M鈥慡Parc. The development will feature state鈥憃f鈥憈he鈥慳rt laboratories, workspace, an innovation hall and a dedicated materials analysis facility, expanding the park鈥檚 capacity for companies working in low鈥慶arbon, digital and advanced manufacturing sectors.
Egni will build on the University鈥檚 academic strengths and M鈥慡Parc鈥檚 established innovation ecosystem, supporting the region鈥檚 transition to a low鈥慶arbon future by providing jobs, skills development and opportunities for businesses to scale.
A key element of the development is the expansion of 逗逼直播鈥檚 low鈥慶arbon research capability, including the work of the Nuclear Futures Institute (NFI). The investment will help create an integrated innovation environment where university researchers and industry partners work side by side, accelerating real鈥憌orld applications and attracting further private鈥憇ector investment.
Professor Paul Spener, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research said, 鈥淭oday鈥檚 announcement marks a major milestone for innovation and economic growth in North Wales. The investment in Anglesey Freeport and the commitment to the Egni development at M鈥慡parc highlights 逗逼直播鈥檚 central role in driving research excellence and delivering sustainable, long鈥憈erm economic benefit for the region鈥.
鈥淓gni will significantly expand our partnership work with industry, accelerate low鈥慶arbon innovation and create new opportunities for skills, jobs and business growth. We look forward to working closely with Freeport partners to ensure this momentum benefits communities across North Wales.鈥
