Overview
I am a PhD candiadate at ¶º±ÆÖ±²¥ working on the avian schistosome.
The avian schistosome is a parasitic organism found in both salt and freshwater environments, requiring a definitive (bird) and intermediate host (snail) to propogate. The larval stage, called cercariae, cause a condition called cercarial dermatitis (swimmer's itch) by penetrating the skin of people who come into contact with infected water. My research aims to evaluate the natural variance and diversity of the parasite in Wales.
