Geoff is a lecturer in Sport and Exercise Science and a member of the Institute for Applied Human Physiology. He recently joined 逗逼直播 in 2024 after completing postgraduate training in environmental physiology and two postdoctoral fellowships studying the regulation of cerebral blood flow and neuroimaging.

鈥� Human鈥揺nvironment interactions and heat stress:

My research investigates how humans physiologically interact with challenging environments, with a particular focus on heat stress and thermal strain. I examine the effectiveness of physiological, behavioural, and technological cooling strategies aimed at preserving cardiovascular and thermoregulatory stability during heat exposure. A key objective of this work is to generate evidence that can inform public health guidance, occupational safety standards, and climate-adaptation policies as global temperatures continue to rise.

鈥� Cardiovascular responses to diverse and extreme environments:

I study how the cardiovascular system responds and adapts to a range of environmental stressors, including heat, hypoxia, and air pollution, both in isolation and in combination. This research seeks to identify mechanisms underlying cardiovascular strain and reduced performance in extreme environments, as well as factors that contribute to individual vulnerability or resilience. These insights are intended to support strategies that protect cardiovascular health and maintain performance in environmentally demanding settings.

Areas of research: 1) cardiovascular and thermoregulatory responses to extreme environments (heat, cold, diving), and 2) cerebrovascular regulation in health and aging. Both themes require an integrative approach assessing multiple organ systems that function to support to regulate thermal and cardiorespiratory homeostasis during combined environmental stressors (e.g., exercise, heat, and pollution), or to maintain cerebral oxygen delivery and therefore neural processes.
